We will use a Python virtual environment for our development. This will allow us a completely separate environment in which to load the external libraries we require for our project. We will need the following for our development environment:

• A Raspberry Pi Model 4 with 4 GB RAM (or a PC with the Raspberry Pi Desktop OS)
• The Raspbian Buster operating system
• A webcam (or Raspberry Pi camera module)
• The Thonny IDE (comes pre-installed with the Raspbian Buster NOOBs operating system)
