About the authors

Steve O’Connor has extensive experience in managing large and small organisations, both income- and expenditure-based. His work demonstrates a research and futures focus, which has been developed to ensure library and information services achieve creative, relevant, efficient and cost-beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders.

Steve has researched, published, spoken, consulted and taught extensively in the areas of change, organisational management, information delivery, collection transition, scenario and strategic planning, and the wider library and information environment. He enjoys foundational and critical ongoing involvement in the development and implementation of digital information services, and in the provision of consortia strategies for compliance, service and financial improvement. He has held positions as the University Librarian in Australia and now in Hong Kong. He has been the CEO of a large consortium as well.

Currently, Steve is focused on the creation of new and sustainable business models for the future of libraries. He is also the Editor of the international, peer-reviewed journal, Library Management as well as Library Management China, which is building bridges to the Chinese Library communities.

Steve’s significant work has earned him respect and an international recognition.

Peter Sidorko is the Deputy University Librarian at the University of Hong Kong, a position he has held since 2001. In this role Peter has day-to-day management responsibility for the full range of public services, technical services and technological developments for the entire University Library system, which consists of one main library and six branch libraries, a staff of approximately 240 and a collection in excess of 2.7 million physical volumes plus a vast digital collection. In his position he has been instrumental in initiating and directing change within the libraries.

As a part-time lecturer in the University of Hong Kong’s Information Science programmes conducted through the Faculty of Education as well as through the University’s continuing education school, he has recently taught subjects that have included: Change and Professional Development, The Information Society, Information Policy, Library Supervision and Management, Contemporary Library Management and Management of Information Agencies. He is a strong advocate of effective leadership and change in academic and research libraries.
