About the Author

Myles McGrane’s business career started at the National Broadcasting Company in New York where he held energy and facility management positions. After NBC, he joined Ogden Corporation’s Entertainment Division where he was instrumental in organizing the private management of the Javits Center and was frequently assigned to assist with troubled accounts. Following Ogden Corporation, he joined a new management team at the Javits Center as General Manager. The team was charged with reforming a notorious union labor situation and rebuilding the Center’s declining business. He was a key player in renegotiating all the labor contracts and hiring and training a new workforce (up to 2,000 employees) without business disruption. During his 12-year tenure as General Manager, the Javits Center operated profitably each year and built a sizable capital reserve. His achievements were recognized and he was named one of the “Top 100—Most Influential” people in the trade show industry by Trade Show Week magazine in 2004 and 2006.

He then left the Javits Center and joined Centerplate as Corporate Vice President of Facility Design and Management. Centerplate is a top tier concession and catering company serving only the sports and entertainment sector.

In July 2009 he formed MTMConsult, LLC, a consultancy offering strategic business advice to the convention and trade show and facility management sectors. Clients have included St. Johns University, Washington DC Convention Center, The America’s Center (St. Louis), Advanstar Communications, UBM, Cobo Hall (Detroit), Centerplate, Merchandise Mart Properties and others. His assignments have ranged from project management of a university’s campus high-voltage infrastructure, to advising on union labor issues, to strategic planning and new business development.

He was educated at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis where he received BS in Naval Science. His military service followed as a Navy pilot. He also earned an MS degree in City Planning from the University of Tennessee.
