GADGETS AND GEAR FOR MAKERS
TOOLBOX
You may know electroplating — a thin coat
of metal deposited on an object by charging
it electrically so it attracts metal ions.
Electroforming is the same, just thicker —
creating a sturdy metal object using the
original as a form or scaffold. We spied this
DIY kit at Maker Faire last year and it doesn't
disappoint — extremely well thought-out and
well documented, with all you need to succeed:
conductive paint to
make your object
attractive to copper
ions; copper sulfate
solution to donate those
ions; little details like sealants, adhesives, and
jewelry findings; and an optional custom power
supply to provide optimal amperage to your
electrolyte beaker. So metal! —Keith Hammond
