INSTRUCTIONS
1. To make the version of a wheg shown in the example here, start with a
wheel. You’ll place the legs inside the wheel, to make sure the feet form
a circle. To do that:
Drag a cylinder onto the Workplane
(Figure
A
)
.
Grab one of the corners and stretch the cylinder to make it 60mm
wide and 60mm long. (Thats about 2 1/2 inches.)
TIP: To get exact measurements, click on the corner of the shape,
where you see tiny white boxes. The current size will appear. Click on
a white box to turn it red. Now you can type over the numbers shown.
Set the cylinder height to 8mm.
In the cylinder shape’s pop-up box, click on “Solid” to change the
color. A selection of colors will open. At the bottom, click the box that
says “Transparent.” This will let you see the legs when you combine
them with the wheel
(Figure
B
)
.
2. To make the first leg:
Grab a box shape. Make it 30mm long, 8mm high, and 5mm wide.
Select the wheel and the leg by clicking on the Workplane and

dragging the cursor past both

.
To align the two shapes:
Click on the “Align” button at the top.
Next, click on the wheel cylinder and guides will appear.
Line up the leg box with the wheel cylinder by clicking the guide
along the bottom of the circle.
Then move it halfway over by clicking the guide in the middle of the
wheel.

3. To attach a foot to the end of the leg:
Go to a top-down view using the direction control box.
Look for “Shape Generators” in the menu of shapes. Find the
extruder cylinder shape and drag it onto the Workplane
(Figure
D
)
.
Make the extrusion cylinder 8mm high. Keep the width at 20mm. The
height will change as you work.
On the extrusion pop-up box, go to the diagram. You can change the
shape by moving the little handles around. To make a rounded foot
for your leg, try bringing the top handle down a little until it looks like
a pointy shoe. Wiggle it around to get the shape you want
(Figure
E
)
.
Select just the leg and the foot. To do this, first select everything –
leg, foot, and wheel. Then de-select the wheel by holding down the
shift key and clicking on the cylinder
(Figure
F
)
.
Click “Align.” You only want to move the foot – the leg should stay
inside the cylinder. If you click the leg, the align guides should move
to the box. But sometimes it’s
hard to select just the box,
so choose either the top or
bottom guides until the foot
is even with the leg. You can
hover your cursor over your
choice before you click to see
which shape will move where.
Then click the guides along
the bottom and back of the
leg to move the foot into place
(Figure
G
)
.
If you want, adjust the foot
shape to fit the leg a little
better by selecting it again
and moving the handles in
the diagram. The foot should
more or less follow the curve
of the wheel
(Figure
H
)
.

When you’re finished, select
just the foot and the leg again.
Click the “Group” button at
the top of the screen and
group the leg and foot
(Figure
I
)
. Now you will be able to
treat them as one big shape.
4. To make the second and third
legs:
Select the first leg and the
wheel. To make the second
leg, click on the “Duplicate
and Repeat” button at the
top of the screen, near the
Tinkercad logo
(Figure

)
.
Next, move the cursor around
near the shapes until you
see a little curved arrow. If
you click on it, a circle with
markings should appear
around the wheel
(Figure
K
)
.
TIP: Make sure you’ve got the curved arrow for the top-down rotation
guide. There are also guides to rotate the shape from the top to
bottom and from side to side.
