A key benefit of SharePoint is the ability to share and collaborate on documents, whether they are Word documents, Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations, Visio files, forms, or pictures. To make effective use of SharePoint's document collaboration and management capabilities, it is important to understand the various features SharePoint provides in its libraries. This chapter explores the features offered by document libraries and picture libraries and how these features can be used effectively by the organization. Backwards compatible libraries are also discussed in this chapter. Forms Libraries are discussed in Chapter 10, “Using Other Office 2003 Products with SharePoint Technologies.”
