About the Author

S. N. Singh was born in Varanasi in the year 1943. He obtained B.Sc. Engg. (Electrical Engg.) and M.Sc. Engg. (Electrical Machines) from Banaras Hindu University in the year 1967 and 1969, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Drives and Power Electronics in 1983 from Roorkee University.

As a specialist in Power Electronics and Drives, Electrical Machines, Energy Technology and Management, he has served for about four decades in teaching, research and administration in various capacities like Lecturer, Reader, Professor and Head at IT-BHU, Roorkee University, and Director at VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, GL Bajaj ITM, IECCET, etc.

He has 80 plus technical papers published and presented in both International and National Journals and Conferences. He has also authored books titled A text Book on Power Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

He is a recipient of Dr A. N. Khosla Research Silver Medal, which includes both cash prize and certificates (twice) and Commendation Certificate of Merit from the Institution of Engineers (India). He is a Chartered Engineer (India), Fellow of IE (India), Life Member of ISTE, IAQR, and a consultant and expert member to several organizations like Indian Railways, BHEL, small scale industries, and several government committees like AICTE, UGC, UPPSC, etc.

After superannuation from IT-BHU in the year 2005, he has served as Director for G. L. Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management, Executive Director Apostel Institute, Director (Planning and Development) for IIMT College of Engineering at Greater Noida, and Director for Aryan Institute of Technology, Ghaziabad.

He is presently associated with Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, as Professor Emeritus.
