The Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is provided by Oracle for use with an Oracle8 database. Using a catalog located in a different database, RMAN automates the processes of performing hot and cold backups and moving archive files to secondary storage. RMAN also supports the creation of incremental hot backups.
