IDE Support

JetBrains, the company behind Kotlin, is well known for its integrated development environment (IDE) called IntelliJ IDEA, and obviously has first-class support for Kotlin. As far as the IDE is concerned, Eclipse is also one of the most favored among Java developers, and so JetBrains also offers a Kotlin plugin for Eclipse.

In the very early days when Java had just evolved, there was no IDE in the initial stage and developers had to use text editors to do coding. It was difficult working without the safety and convenience of an IDE. When Eclipse came onto the market, developers quickly adopted it and since then it has become popular and widely accepted among Java developers.

Kotlin, on the other hand, was lucky enough to get IDE support from day one. This quickly boosted the popularity of Kotlin. It was really convenient and easy to learn. Developers were able to produce good quality code quickly, improving the software development life cycle.

Needless to say, Kotlin allows coding with text editors. Also, you can use Command Prompt to build Kotlin applications. Additionally, if you are an Android developer, it has its own IDE called Android Studio developed on top of IntelliJ IDEA IDE.
