Geocoding using other geographic fields

Another way to create custom territories is to geocode a custom location field present in the data based on other fields.

For example, we want to add the Region field to Location Hierarchy. To achieve this, right-click on the Region field. Select Geographic Role | Create From | Country. This adds the field to the location hierarchy and the globe shape denoting a geographic field appears next to it:

Bring the Region field onto the Labels shelf. You can see the custom location on the map now appear as shown in the following screenshot: 

Using this method, you can view any custom territory that you have in your dataset.

Now that we have learned how to create maps and add geographic fields, we will move on to the next section where we will learn about modifying locations to help deal with erroneous or ambiguous location data.
