Earlier, we created a calculated field that multiplied profit by the Multiplier parameter. If we wanted to replace profit with another field, we could do so manually. However, this becomes cumbersome if the same field needs to be replaced in many calculations. Tableau provides a solution to this. Right-click on the field to be replaced and select Replace References:
A menu will appear that gives you the option of selecting what field to replace the old field with. In the following example, we want all references of Profit to be replaced by Discount:
After clicking OK, the calculated field is updated with the replaced reference.
If you ever want to know additional details for a particular field, then right-click the field in the Data pane and select the Describe Field button. A window similar to the following will appear:
