What’s New in Version 1.5.1

This version adds the link to the App Store download for Ventura.

What’s New in Version 1.5

This update brings this book in line with the upcoming release of macOS 13 Ventura, expected in September or October 2022. Updates were made using stable beta releases. This book will updated after the production release of Ventura if further changes appear.

I’ve made changes throughout to reflect the new System Settings, which replaces the long-running System Preferences in macOS, as well as other interface-related changes. A few specific changes include:

  • Battery: The Battery panel in Ventura reorganized information from how it appeared in Monterey. See Examine Your Charging in macOS.

  • FileVault: Apple redid the layout for Security & Privacy in Ventura: it’s now Privacy & Security and has all the settings in a single long view. See Enable and Manage FileVault for the rundown on how to access FileVault settings now.

What Was New in Version 1.4

Apple announced the first in their M2 series of chips on June 6, 2022. The new M2 powers an updated MacBook Air and a largely unchanged 14-inch MacBook Pro. I’ve updated this book throughout to account for the new chip and the new Mac models.

What Was New in Version 1.3

On March 8, 2022, Apple announced what they said was the last chip in its M1 series, the M1 Ultra. This followed the original M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max. The M1 Ultra so far appears only in certain configuration of the new Mac Studio computer introduced at the same time. This book has been updated throughout to incorporate features of the M1 Ultra and specs for the Mac Studio.
