This photo of Ibrahim Ferrer was made on July 8, 2005. I focused on his hand because I was fascinated by his skin, which looked like parchment. His death four weeks later gave the photo extra historical value.

The evening I made this photo of jazz singer Shirley Horn, July 11, 2003, she never finished her performance. After the first couple of songs, she became ill and was led off stage. She did not perform much afterward. As a result, this photo became more meaningful to jazz music lovers. It memorializes one of the last performances of this great jazz diva, who was struggling with her health.

Many singers go for a special appearance on stage at the start of the show. The choice of outfits differs by genre. For example, Sharon den Adel, lead singer of the gothic rock band Within Temptation, often uses a cape. Please note that the singer often removes any special clothing shortly after arriving on stage. Be prepared! Shoot as much as possible for as long as it lasts.

Singer Gerard Joling likes to go completely over the top with his initial appearance. This fake fur cape is not very comfortable and will therefore be taken off soon. So grab the opportunity to make a very special shot of the artist!
