Concert photography is not only exciting during the show. Everything that's happening around a concert can be interesting as well. You can always make some great shots of building the stage, the load-out, the roadies, etc. These types of shots also give you a good opportunity to work on your relationship with the people around the artist.

Photographing the stage under construction is one way to obtain front stage access for the show. If you happen to know anybody working in that field, definitely give it a go.
