It's not important who the singer is in this photo. (Guy McKnight of The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster). This picture breathes rock 'n' roll because of the color, the harsh lighting, and the charisma of the silhouette. The monitors in front of him complete the picture. Because of its simplicity, it's one of my favorite shots.

Jon Bon Jovi, 2005. Nikon D2X, 1/320 sec, f/2.8, ISO 1600, 160 mm

Jon Bon Jovi gives himself completely in this shot. The amplifiers covering the stage in the background have been a regular feature of rock 'n' roll acts since the 1970s. Include as many amps as possible in your picture to capture that typical rock feel.

Diana Krall, 2008. Nikon D3, 1/400 sec, f/2.8, ISO 800, 60 mm

Diana Krall doesn't really like to have photographers front stage, but sometimes you get lucky. At festivals where the line-up includes various artists, you can get the opportunity to make a unique shot. In this case, I was nearly on stage with a 24–70 lens.

Dee Dee Bridgewater, 2007. Nikon D2X, 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600, 170 mm

Apart from being a fantastic singer, Dee Dee Bridgewater is a one-of-a-kind style icon. Her outfits and hairstyles make every performance a special occasion. I won't pass up an opportunity to take photos of her, even though I have taken her picture many times already. Here, she is scatting in a typical jazz singer pose.
