Association of British Science Writers. C/o The British Association for the Advancement of Science.

Audit Bureau of Circulations. Provides certified circulation data for newspapers and magazines.

Authors ÕLicensing and Collecting Society (ALCS). Collects and distributes to writers fees for photocopying.

British Association of Communicators in Business. Publishes Editor’s Handbook for editing house journals.

National Readership Surveys

National Union of Journalists. The largest union for journalists, working for agreements on salaries, fees and conditions.

PEN. The British branch of International PEN, which is open to all writers. Concerned with freedom of expression throughout the world.

Periodical Publishers Association. Operates the Periodicals Training Council.

Press Complaints Commission. Self-regulatory body of newspapers and periodicals. It investigates complaints and reports monthly and annually.

Public Relations Consultants Association. Publishes information on job opportunities in PR.

Society of Authors. Independent trade union. Advises on negotiations and contracts with publishers, film companies, etc.

Writers ÕCircles. Will put you in touch with the nationwide network. The Regional Arts Association of your area will put you in touch with local groups if your local library cannot.

Writers ÕGuild of Great Britain. Trade union, affiliated to the Trades Union Congress.
