Summary

In this chapter, we introduced Electron and discussed how it allows developers to build desktop applications using web technologies. We discussed some of the example implementations that are used for production use. We also looked at how to integrate the Electron with underlying platform features and APIs. We then created a tiny sample application to understand the structure of a basic Electron application. Finally, we looked at how Electron works under the hood by discussing chromium architecture, chromium content shell, multi process architecture, and inter process communication. Now we have a brief idea about Electron and its architecture. In the next chapter, we will be discussing using Electron in a real-world scenario. We will also discuss integrating Electron with front end frameworks.
