Exploring Mumbai

A sprawling megalopolis teeming with people, sounds and sights, Mumbai has something to offer for every budget, age and interest. You could watch a film shoot, enjoy an adventure park, delve into history as you walk through the Fort area, or simply admire the sunset over the sea. Here are some ideas to help you make the most of your visit.

Two Days in Mumbai


Day 1

Morning

Start the day with a visit to Afghan Church, then amble along Colaba Causeway. Walk to the Gateway of India and see the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, before proceeding to the National Gallery of Modern Art. Cross over to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, then have lunch at The Pantry.

Afternoon

Head to the University of Mumbai to admire the Rajabai Clock Tower. Stroll along Marine Drive or take a taxi to Babulnath Temple, then end the day by relaxing at the Girgaum Chowpatty beach.

Day 2

Morning

Begin your day at Bandstand. Take in the sea views from Bandra Fort and walk past Mannat on the way to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount. Later, see the street art near Chapel Road and shop at Linking Road. Stop for a light lunch at Candies.

Afternoon

Take an auto rickshaw or a taxi to ISKCON Temple. Amble down Juhu Church Road to explore the gaothan (village). Stop by St Joseph’s Church, then walk to Jalsa. Afterwards, spend time at Juhu Chowpatty Beach. End with a visit to Prithvi Theatre. Have a bite at Prithvi Café.


Four Days in Mumbai


Day 1

Morning

Begin your day at Kala Ghoda by starting at the Jehangir Art Gallery. Then head on to Bombay Stock Exchange and Flora Fountain. From here, head east to Horniman Circle gardens; but stop at St Thomas’ Cathedral. To the north is Mulji Jetha Fountain, and further ahead is the General Post Office building. Enjoy lunch at a café in the area.

Afternoon

Take a taxi to Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum. You’ll cross the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and can stop for photos. Also visit the Byculla Zoo.

Day 2

Morning

Visit the temples near Banganga in the morning, including Walkeshwar Temple. Head on to Kamala Nehru Park and Hanging Gardens, then see the displays at Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya.

Afternoon

After lunch, head to Dhobi Ghat. A good vantage point is from the Mahalaxmi station bridge. Then, visit Mahalakshmi Racecourse. End with shopping or having a meal at High Street Phoenix.

Day 3

Morning

Set off early for the Dadar Flower Market. Take a taxi to the Haji Ali Dargah, then have breakfast at the Haji Ali Juice Centre. Explore Nehru Science Centre and the Volte gallery.

Afternoon

Spend the afternoon taking a guided tour of Dharavi. Be sure to see the Kala Qila here.

Day 4

Morning

Take a ferry from Versova jetty for Madh Island. Start at the Madh Fort, and then move north to Erangal Beach. See St Bonaventure Church nearby, then head towards Aksa Beach or straight on to Marve Beach.

Afternoon

Get on another ferry from the Marve Ferry Point for the Global Vipassana Pagoda. End your day on the serene Gorai Beach.
