Part Two—The WHAT and the WHY of the SAS Hash Object

The goal of Part Two is to provide a rich set of examples that address typical business intelligence type questions. It uses the story line of a Proof of Concept project to describe to both business and IT users WHY they should consider the use of the hash object and WHAT it can be used for.

Part Two contains four chapters:

1.   Chapter 5 provides a description of a set of transactional data that was generated as the source data for this Proof of Concept.

2.   Chapter 6 expands upon the HOW discussion in Part One by presenting simple examples of questions that can be answered using the SAS hash object.

3.   Chapter 7 describes using the SAS hash object to take that transactional data as input to create a data mart/warehouse that can be used to produce the summary data and metrics to be reported on.

4.   Chapter 8 provides a rich set of example programs that address typical data aggregation and reporting requirements.

Part Two is targeted to both our business and IT users. We suggested that as they read through the examples that they refer back to the more detailed HOW discussion in Part One as needed.

There are also valid reasons to begin your exploration of this book by starting directly with Part Two (especially if you already have some experience with the SAS hash object).
