Abstract

The issues and challenges related to disaster risk management (DRM) in the agricultural sector are now widely linked to sustainable environment. The fact remains that almost every day a disaster strikes some part of the world. The regular occurrence of disasters, both natural and man-made, has forced the worldwide communities to look for novel solutions to prevent and mitigate such disasters. It has also compelled the attention of academicians and practitioners to seek solutions using DRM strategies in the context of the agricultural sector. This volume compiles probing studies that disseminate the work of outstanding scholars and practitioners, especially in South Asian countries. The research studies focus on how to tackle the challenges associated with disasters at the ground level. Thus emerges the need to amalgamate and coordinate the resources and agencies involved in DRM in agriculture to ensure the quality of life to the citizens of the affected countries after disasters.

This volume incorporates specific themes correlated with DRM from the perspective of South Asia. It assesses (i) the consequences of distinct disaster risks in agriculture, (ii) how diverse disaster risk problems are handled in distinct settings, and (iii) different methodologies embraced by different sectors of society to alleviate and prepare for disaster risk. This volume adopts an interdisciplinary approach to examine various aspects of disaster risk management with regard to governance, including policy making, implementation, and monitoring.
