Organization of This Book

This book is divided into three parts.

Part I is an introduction to DocBook and includes the following chapters:

Chapter 1, Getting Started with DocBook

Provides an overview of DocBook, including a history of the schema and a description of what is new in DocBook V5.0

Chapter 2, Creating DocBook Documents

Describes how to get started creating books, sets of books, articles, and other documents using DocBook

Chapter 3, Validating DocBook Documents

Describes how to validate DocBook instances and how to interpret common validation errors

Chapter 4, Publishing DocBook Documents

Provides a high-level overview of DocBook publishing

Chapter 5

Describes how to customize the DocBook schema, including examples of common customizations

Part II, is a complete reference guide to the DocBook elements.

Part III, contains installation instructions, a discussion of DocBook variants and future directions, a list of resources, an interchange checklist, and a copy of the GNU Free Documentation License:

Appendix A

Describes how to install the DocBook schema and stylesheets

Appendix B

Describes DocBook variants and discusses future directions

Appendix C

Lists websites, books, and other resources

Appendix D

An interchange checklist; includes things to consider when sharing DocBook documents with others
