Bleeding Heart

The bleeding heart blooms beautifully in arching sprays and produces pink or white blossoms. The flowers are locket-shaped and dangle from curved stems like a necklace.

Try these drawings on vellum-finish bristol board with an HB pencil. The tooth of this finish makes the HB appear darker than the plate finish.

In step A, use a diamond pattern to block in the lower part of the flowers. Once they are established, round off the edges, as shown in step B.

In step A, sketch a horizontal, slightly drooping line to lay in the branch. Short, curved lines extending downward from the branch make up the flower stems. Use small ovals to outline the flowers in step B, adding some detail of the blossoms in step C.
