The columbine is an unusual flower with long protrusions known as spurs. These spurs are very important to butterflies and hummingbirds because each tip contains a drop of nectar.
Follow the steps in this section carefully when drawing the leaves. In step A, notice the sharp angles in the initial shapes and how the leaves develop from them in steps B and C.
Draw the general outline for the buds, and follow with the details. Use this same method for drawing the large flowers.
Attaching a bud or two to the stem will add life and realism to your drawing. Remember that buds don’t droop over like the open blossoms; they point straight up.
