Whatever the market or the business model, there must be a return on the investment in such a way that the following formula holds true:
Value created by blockchain - Network operation cost > 0
Essentially, with a positive return, and out of common business interests, a network-level business model can emerge. Obviously, the objective will be to maximize the value and minimize the costs, thereby delivering higher margins. It is not hard to understand that when the network can deliver a high margin of benefits, organizations will flock to the network, eager to join. That is, unless the business model favors a few at the expense of many.
Thus, the selection of a business model that is fair and suitable for most of its members will be a deciding factor in the success or failure of the network.
