CHAPTER 13

Your Move

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize
how close they were to success when they gave up.

—THOMAS EDISON

Governmental agencies and polling firms study average Americans—what they earn, how much school they have completed, how much TV they watch, how much money they have in the bank, and so on. Average means common, every day, run-of-the-mill, usual, general, and ordinary. The polling firms are expecting you to be that type person.

Skew the average! You are different from anyone who has ever walked this earth. You are average only if you allow yourself to be average. You have authority over your emotions, actions, ambitions, and future. You do not have to accept and settle for status quo. You need not succumb to being a victim of circumstances. Take charge of your goals and your life. Be determined. You do not have to be average.

What are you doing to increase your knowledge and capabilities? Many people spend too many hours watching TV, playing games, accumulating electronic correspondence, and notifying others of their piddling. What if you determined to be much more than average? What if you spent half of your “entertainment time” reading something instructional, taking an online course to enhance your computing skills, participating in ongoing education courses or groups, and planning your strategies for tomorrow? You would increase your value.

You would no longer be average. You would be Indispensable.

What if you took authority over your emotions and responses? What if you woke up and determined to exude joy and happiness? What if you assumed a can-do attitude rather than a gloom-and-doom mentality? What if you smiled at people you did not know and complimented them on something? What if you did not allow selfish people access to your emotions? What if you counted 10 things every day for which you were thankful, rather than grumbling about what you don’t have? What if you told your spouse, your children, your significant other, your parents, and your dear friends that you loved them? What if you told them you were proud of them? Your life would change.

You would no longer be average. You would be Indispensable.

What if you took control over what influences your life? What if you looked in the mirror and demanded more of the occupant? What if you said that excuses were done? What if you took control of what you ate, what you drank, what you allowed to captivate your body and mind? What if you proclaimed that fear, anxiety, and insecurity are not the boss of you? What if you did not allow any individual to compromise who you are and where you are going? What if you established goals and jealously set a path to achieve them?

You would no longer be average. You would be Indispensable.

It is your move. It is your life. Live it.

Require the best of yourself. Rebrand yourself. Look, practice, and perform the part. Continue to learn and grow in ability and capability. Eliminate any thought of entitlement and focus on bringing value. Refuse to give fear, insecurity, and any thoughts of surrender access to your goals. Recognize where there is turmoil, there is opportunity. Take guarded ownership of your emotions and actions. Laugh, love, find passion, be thankful, and encourage others. Be loyal to those who trust you. This is your life, your time, your watch. Be fierce. Increase your value.

The Indispensable person accepts that the next move is always his or her move. No excuses or justifications for why things are the way they are. It is your time to move forward.
