About the Authors

Marshall J. Cook is professor emeritus, Division of Continuing Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is the author of more than 30 books, including Slow Down and Get More Done, Time Management, and the first edition of Effective Coaching. He edits Extra Innings, an online newsletter for writers and for 20 years has edited a print publication for writers called Creativity Connection. He has published articles and short stories in hundreds of regional and national magazines, and is a columnist for The Perspiring Writer, an online magazine for writers. He teaches in the Odyssey Project for the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Marshall holds a BA in creative writing and an MA in communications from Stanford University.

Laura Poole is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC), credentialed by the International Coach Federation. She is the founder of her own coaching practice, Archer Coaching, and specializes in helping working professionals create a meaningful career balanced with a joyful life. She works with teams, companies, and individuals to create lasting change, powerful results, and new ways of thinking and doing. She is also an avid public speaker on a variety of topics.

After graduating from Duke University, Laura began her career in publishing. She eventually founded her own freelance editorial services company in 1997, through which she provides scholarly copy editing for major publishers. She also co-developed a respected editing training program for freelancers and publishers.
