About the Author

Elaine Hall is founder of Level 6 Software, the leading consulting group in discovery methods for software engineering. She conducts training seminars and supports the implementation of software risk management for both government and industry clients worldwide. Dr. Hall is chair of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) risk management working group.

As Director of Risk Management and Metrics at Computer & Concepts Associates, Hall assisted top officials at the Department of Defense in their Software Acquisition Management Best Practices Initiative at the Software Program Managers Network. She presented training on MIL-STD-498 for the Joint Logistics Commanders direct satellite broadcast. At Harris Corporation, Hall was a member of the SEPG responsible for achieving SEI Level 3 and International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 Registration. She led a technical collaboration between the SEI and Harris Information Systems Division to develop and use effective risk assessment methods. She wrote database software for the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (J-STARS) that flew operationally in the Persian Gulf War. As a certified software developer for Apple Computer she authored two medical software applications that were sold commercially with zero defects. As an assistant professor at the Florida Institute of Technology, she taught graduate-level software project management.
