Acknowledgments

This book is dedicated to the memories of Gene Golub and Rajeev Motwani, who were my teachers, mentors, and friends. All author proceeds of this book will go to the Gene Golub Memorial Fellowship and the Rajeev Motwani Foundation.

Much of the work in this book represents joint work with Taher Haveliwala, Glen Jeh, Mario Schlosser, Dan Klein, and Tyson Condie. This work was completed under the excellent direction of my principal advisor Chris Manning, as well as Hector Garcia-Molina, Gene Golub, and Rajeev Motwani.
