Scenario/Problem: You want to disable extra checks on Word 97–2003 documents loaded by Word Services.
Solution: Use the DisableBinaryFileScan
parameter with the Set-SPWordConversionServiceApplication
cmdlet.
DisableBinaryFileScan
is a switch parameter. By default, it is false
, and Word Services performs additional checks on legacy Word documents (Word 97–2003). If you trust all sources of Word documents, you can disable this additional scanning by using Set-SPWordConversionServiceApplication
with the DisableBinaryFileScan
switch parameter, as shown in Listing 25.9.

As long as all sources are trusted, it is a good idea to disable scanning to improve performance of Word Services against those documents. To enable scanning, use the same parameter with a $false
