Appendix B. Challenge

These cryptograms are presented as a challenge to readers. The methods are not given. It is your task to determine the method and solve the cryptogram. Sufficient material is given so that a skilled amateur who has determined the method can solve it. In all cases the language is English. The text reads normally and grammatically. No special effort has been made to distort standard English letter frequencies or contact frequencies.

These are all single-step ciphers. There is no mixing of methods, such as combining a substitution with a transposition. These challenge ciphers are rated Three.
