Introduction

Between January and April 2020, Zoom went from a vaguely known service for school and business videoconferencing to something that everyone in the world had heard of—and a large number of people had abruptly begun to use. In the age of the pandemic, connecting online was critical for work, government, and school, as well as checking in on family and friends and keeping social relationships active.

If you’ve heard of Zoom and haven’t yet started to use it, or don’t yet use it regularly, this book first guides you through basic installation and setup in Get Set Up with Zoom.

For those who already have Zoom installed or use it routinely and want more guidance about improving your hardware and physical set up, configuring Zoom before and during meetings, participating in meetings, and using several Zoom features, this book is also for you.

This book will help you become a comfortable Zoom meeting participant, understanding all the basic controls and options available to you as well as some more advanced features useful for sharing images, documents, and presentations.

If you’d like to step up further, to being a Zoom master, or if you want detailed advice on how to host and manage meetings, consult my more in-depth book, Take Control of Zoom.
