The Mission Objective and Its Relation to Mega

When doing Mega planning, one’s organization states, in measurable performance terms, where they are headed and how to tell when they have arrived. This is called a mission objective. The mission objective states, again in measurable terms, what elements of the Ideal Vision/Mega the organization commits to deliver. Thus, the Ideal Vision is the basis for the mission objective.

A mission objective states, in measurable performance terms, what results the organization delivers as it moves ever closer to meeting the Mega level needs selected for closure. Figure 6.1 provides the “roll down” relationships between Mega, Macro, and Micro results, and this relationship is useful so that you always relate the levels of contributions for each level of results.

The mission objective states clearly what the organization (and all of its internal partners) will deliver and never includes the methods or resources to be used. It is like any other objective.

Missions derive from the Ideal Vision. An organization selects what portion of the Ideal Vision it commits to deliver and move ever closer to it.
