Introduction
is book describes how value and rationality will change in the emerging Connected Society.
e fundamental change in engineering is that we need to move from individual play to team
play in order to cope with the frequently and extensively changing environments and situations.
We need a wide variety of team members to adapt to such changes.
How we can organize a team and how we should manage and operate the team will be
discussed. Moreover, what is very important in the Connected Society are not only products but
how humans are connected. e perfect team must therefore be composed of both products and
humans.
e mathematical approach has been dominant in traditional engineering. However, our
world is expanding quickly, and changes are so frequent and extensive that we can no longer
apply these mathematical approaches. erefore, how we can secure value and rationality is
what will be discussed.
It will be shown that value and rationality are nothing other than how we, engineers, can
meet the expectations of our customers and satisfy them. In short, engineering tomorrow will
become expectation management.
e paths to manage expectations are very diverse. is book shows the New Horizons
and what paths there may be and how we can possibly explore them and can develop our New
Worlds will be described.
