Purpose: To pair participants for a series of personal introductions at the outset of class.
Time Required: 5 minutes.
Size of Group: Unlimited (but since it calls for an even number of participants, you may have to take part in your own game).
Materials Required: A number of small index cards, prepared in advance by the trainer.
The Exercise in Action: Jeri Eberhardt, senior instructor for Computer Task Group, Buffalo, NY, shuffles a deck of prepared index cards and asks participants to select one. Written on each card is a word that is one-half of a well-known or logical pair.
The participants’ task is to move around the room and find their “other half.” Here are some examples of words Eberhardt uses on the paired cards:
• Rice/Shine
• Bacon / Eggs
• Mr. / Mrs.
• War / Peace
• Trial / Error
• Pork chops / Applesauce
Once pairs are matched, participants interview their partners and introduce each other to the class.
