The Exercise in Action: As part of her organization’s orientation training, Margaret Wheeler, a trainer with the product and sales division of The Body Shop in Chicago, sends teams of new employees throughout the company on a scavenger hunt.
Teams are given a list of objects that can be found in various departments, which Wheeler has preplanted with the help of key people in those departments. When teams report back to class, the objects are used to discuss the different divisions of the company and how they interrelate. Teams are then asked to create a “work of art” from the objects that embodies the company’s spirit as they perceive it.
