Summary

This chapter described linking the business and usage requirements gathered earlier with a functional viewpoint. You should now understand the functionality provided in the control, operations, information, application, and business domains. As we described the functionality, we provided guidance regarding the components in our solution that will be part of each domain and aligned the domains to the capabilities needed in our supply chain optimization project.

You should now also understand what an agile development environment is and why it is a preferred methodology in Industrial Internet projects. We described some of the approaches used to ensure that rapid delivery of solution increments occurs.

Now, it is time to turn our attention to the implementation viewpoint and architecture patterns. In the next chapter, we'll look at evaluating Industrial Internet applications to speed development and deployment of solutions. We'll describe their promise, what they are capable of, and how they can align with your functional requirements. We will also describe how to perform a gap analysis to determine how helpful an application might be, thus helping you determine whether to deploy an application or custom build a solution from scratch.
