Practice Activities

  1. If your project does not currently have a charter, write one using the Project Charter Template that accompanies this book. When you do, consider which elements of the charter provided the most new insights into your current project and be sure to include those in future charters.

  2. If you do already have a charter, consider the following questions:

    • Was it formally approved by the right people?

    • Do the team members take it seriously?

    • Is it accessible to all the appropriate stakeholders?

    • Does it contain all the information recommended in this chapter?

    • Is it modified through negotiation and reapproval when the project environment, conditions, or objectives change, per your organization’s change control process?

    • Do team members refer to it periodically to ensure that their work is on track and aligned with the work of others?
