Well, there are a couple ways: (1) Click on the layer you want to copy over to another open Photoshop document, then go under the Layer menu (at the top of the screen), and choose Duplicate Layer. When the Duplicate Layer dialog appears, click-and-hold on the Document pop-up menu, and you’ll see the name of your other open document (along with the option to create a new one). Choose the document you want this layer copied over to, click OK, and now that selected layer appears in the other document. Or, (2) click on the layer you want to copy over to another open document. Then, using the Move tool (V), click-and-hold right on the image itself, in the image window, and drag it onto the other document window. For example, if you have an image of a pear on a layer, click on the pear’s layer in the Layers panel, then drag that pear layer right up to the tab of the other open Photoshop document (if you have the Tabs feature turned on in your Photoshop preferences. If not, you’ll just drag it right onto the other document). Don’t let go yet—keep holding down the mouse button until that document becomes the active document (it’ll take just a second or so), then while still holding down the mouse button, move your cursor down into that document. Once your cursor is in the new image area of the other document, let go of the mouse button and your layer appears. It’s only kind of funky until you’ve done it once or twice, and then you’ll have the hang of it.
