You add photos the same way you would add another video clip: click-and-hold on the little filmstrip icon to the left of your first clip in the timeline and, from the popup menu that appears, choose Add Media. Now, just select a photo, click Open, and the photo will insert itself at the end of the timeline. You can then drag-and-drop it wherever you’d like it to appear in the timeline, or if you want to do it the easy way, just drag-and-drop it in the Layers panel. Now, when your photo appears in your movie, by default, it appears for a very short time, but you can have it stay onscreen for as long as you’d like by clicking-and-dragging on the right edge of the purple clip that represents it in the timeline (video clips appear in blue in the timeline; photos appear in purple. This just helps you keep visual track of what’s what). Just drag that right edge out as long as you’d like it to run (a pop-up appears showing how long the duration will be as you drag; as seen above at the top).
