Installing on CentOS

On CentOS, you need superuser privileges to install a software package. The simplest way to do this is to enter superuser mode using the su command.

  1. Enter superuser mode
    $ su -
    #

  2. Install the basic Ruby package. Type yes as prompted.
    # yum install ruby

  3. Install Ruby packages for development and documentation.
    # yum install ruby-devel ruby-irb ruby-rdoc ruby-ri

  4. Install the Rubygems package.
    # yum install rubygems

  5. Install the AppFog gem.
    # gem install af

  6. Install the AppFog gem.
    # gem install af

  7. Install the Sinatra gem.
    # gem install sinatra

  8. Exit superuser mode.
    # exit
    $

Note

Always exit the superuser mode after installing the software. Doing routine tasks as superuser is likely to cause security and other problems.

You will need to re-enter the superuser mode to install Gems, including the AppFog command line tool.

You can use the sudo tool to enter single commands as superuser. On CentOS this feature is not enabled by default. Refer to the system documentation for more information.
