About the Series Editors

Anne Markey is a director of Phelan Architects, a practice she founded in 2009 with her husband Brendan Phelan. She also heads up the Projects Office within the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University, and has over twenty years experience as an architect. Anne is a member of the RIBA and sits on the RIBA CPD Sub-Committee. She is a board member of Catalyst Housing, one of the leading housing associations within London and the South East, where her role is that of Design Champion.

Del Hossain is the MD of the Adrem Group a leading International Architecture and Design Careers Agency based in London, Dubai and Shanghai. By background he is an Architect having practiced with some of London’s leading design firms including Foster and Partners and ORMS. In 2012 he was Awarded ‘London’s Business Mentor of the Year’ for developing companies with a social agenda and progressive ambitions. Del is also a qualified Organisational Development and Wellbeing Psychologist and works closely with leadership teams and Directors in the Creative Industries on their People Strategies and team motivation. He is also a speaker at numerous universities and a former Chairman of the Bartlett Alumni. Del is the Joint Editor of the RIBA’s Business Books Series.

About the Author

Brian Pinder-Ayres qualified as a chartered management accountant (ACMA) in 1984 while working as a finance and tax analyst with Mobil North Sea Ltd. He has held the most senior management roles in finance with Polaroid, Braxton Associates (the strategy consulting arm of major accountancy practice Deloitte) and a firm of niche-market City solicitors Walton & Morse LLP. For five years he worked as a management consultant with chartered accountants Moores Rowland during which time he specialised in advising professional firms on a wide variety of financial management issues.

Brian joined YRM Architects just after their successful management buyout in 1997, and established the finance function for the new business. In 2001, he took up the role of Finance Director at architects and planners Shepheard Epstein Hunter plc. He has lectured on finance and architectural practice to students studying for the RIBA Part 3 examination at Portsmouth University, Cambridge University and London South Bank University and is a regular contributor to the very successful annual Part 3 programme at the University of Westminster. He also lectures in financial management for the RIBA.
