Neurons are complex cells that can deal with several different operations. One of their functions is to handle stimuli; they are responsible for making us see, feel, and think. They work through chemical and electrical stimulus usually passed from a neuron to the next one in the network.

Machine learning ANNs were greatly inspired by how the real biological NNs work, and how they balance stimuli and pass them through other neurons. In the following diagram, you will find a detailed model of a single neuron:

There are several types of neurons; the one displayed in the preceding diagram resembles a motor neuron. Extreme left, the reader can see several ramifications. These are the dendrite trees, which receive stimulus. Extreme left, the ramifications are the synapsis, which transmits stimulus.
