Summary

This hour provided you with an introduction to the world of SAP. You have gained an understanding of SAP’s legacy and more current architectures, and its history. You are now more familiar with many SAP catch phrases and terms, too, such as Enterprise Services Architecture, NetWeaver, ECC, client/server, three-tiered architectures, logical unit of work (LUW), dialog step, and others. You are now in an ideal position to jump with both feet into the SAP world as you progress into Hour 2, “SAP Basics,” where you begin to truly explore SAP.

Q&A

QAre you required to use a three-tiered architecture for your SAP implementation?
AAlthough a popular standard, the three-tiered architecture design is only one architecture used in deploying SAP.
QIs there a limit to the number of presentation servers that you can deploy for SAP?
ADepending on the size of your SAP implementation, you might have hundreds, even thousands, of presentation servers (front-end systems or clients). Although there is not a limit, naturally each presentation server must be licensed for SAP software.
QCan you use your SAP system to support multiple languages within a single client?
AYes; when you log in to SAP, you specify the logon language. You can log in with any language available in SAP (most of these are added separately as part of the initial software installation).
