iPhones Emblazoned with Putin and
Trump Portraits
Like his predecessors, Russian president Vladimir Putin is
already being immortalized in bronze and marble monu-
ments throughout the federation. But he’s also emblazoned
in gold on devices residing in the pockets of some of the
wealthy elite.
For a mere 269,000 rubles — roughly $4,200 — patriotic
Russians can own a gold iPhone from Moscow’s Caviar bou-
tique that celebrates Putin’s 2018 reelection with an engraving
of the leader’s face on the back plate.
Caviar doesn’t make iPhone cases. Its artisans instead
apply a double coating of electroplated gold to the iPhone
chassis and then apply hand-engraved images and embel-
lishments, using materials such as precious gems and pieces
of meteorite and volcanic rock.
Caviar made just 76 of these Putin victory phones,
but the company has made a number of other designs hon-
oring the Russian leader as part of its “patriotic collection.”
The luxury brand has been offering Putin phones since 2014,
but it’s not known whether Putin himself carries one.
