Apple Watch Band Collector
Although Ryan Verbeek says his style is not likely to draw much
attention in Dordrecht, Holland, his followers on Instagram
beg to differ. They’re curious about one particular detail in his
outfit—the band of his Apple Watch.
Even as a teenager, Verbeek was well-known for his
collection of nearly 40 Apple Watch bands that he routinely
switches out depending on his mood or wardrobe. His
enthusiasm has gained him Instagram fame as well as free
bands from companies hoping he will model them on his
social media account. He also got a deal to collaborate with
a French company to design a couple of bands.
“They always want to see the new ones,” Verbeek said.
“They definitely started forming preferences of which brands
I wear.”
Since the release of the first Apple Watch in 2015, com-
panies have produced hundreds of bands for it in all manner
of colors, materials, and styles. Fashion experts initially gave
the Apple Watch vanilla reviews, but watch enthusiasts, like
Verbeek, say the watch can look distinctive on anybody with
the help of a fashionable band.
That the watch looks like a scaled-down version of an
iPhone or iPad actually sets it up as a great fashion acces-
sory, according to Verbeek. “This plays a role in the watch
being able to match everyone’s style. It’s risky for Apple to
change the design and hard to imagine it looking any other
way. That’s a good thing.”
Verbeek hopped on the bandwagon from the day
the Apple Watch was introduced. He started an Instagram
account devoted to the Apple Watch that, at first, shared
news about the watch. But the most popular posts were
pictures of the watch and his growing collection of bands.
