071 Hunter-Nurturer Bias

A tendency for male children to be interested in hunting-related things and female children to be interested in nurturing-related things.

• Male children tend to engage in play that emulates hunting behaviors. Female children tend to engage in play that emulates nurturing behaviors.

• Hunter bias is characterized by activities involving object movement and location, weapons and tools, hunting and fighting, predators, and physical play.

• Nurturer bias is characterized by activities involving form and colors, facial expressions and interpersonal skills, caretaking, babies, and verbal play.

• Consider hunter-nurturer bias when designing for children. Consider hunting-related items and activities for male children, and nurturer-related items and activities for female children.
