Introduction

Many organizations are now making a move to the cloud via the Office 365 platform. However, not all on-premises workloads can be migrated to the cloud for many reasons, such as business, technology, and infrastructure constraints. The concept of “hybrid” plays an important role by bringing together the best features of both worlds. We tried to bring this perspective to our readers through this book. We want to combine business needs and technical skills to create solutions that truly impact businesses. You can be the judge of how well that vision has been reached.

The primary goal in the development of this book is to create an educative book that emphasizes the core concepts of hybrid environments in SharePoint Server 2019. This book explains SharePoint hybrid concepts easily. This book contains many examples to show the working of a particular hybrid scenario. This book will help you learn the basic and advanced concepts of SharePoint hybrid environments.

Cloud technology is ever-growing and there will be more hybrid updates and capabilities released in the future. After you finish reading this book, the insight you have regarding SharePoint hybrid will enable you to set a foundation for future updates and learnings.

Who This Book Is For

For those individuals, professionals, and organizations who have started their journey to the cloud, this book will serve as a stepping stone on your way to successful mastery of a hybrid implementation. This book will be a guide for those tasked with installing, configuring, and maintaining hybrid environments with SharePoint Server 2019 for their organization. This book assumes some working knowledge of a previous release of SharePoint Server, such as SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint 2016.

How This Book Is Organized

This book is divided into 20 chapters, and it provides a detailed description of the core concepts of hybrid SharePoint. Each chapter begins with an explanation of the appropriate foundational concepts, followed by a practical implementation to reinforce the explanation. A brief description of each chapter follows.

Chapter 1 : This chapter is an overview of the hybrid concept and is the foundation for the entire book. You will explore the term “hybrid,” the need for a hybrid environment, some real-world use cases of hybrid implementations, and whether it’s the right choice for your organization.

Chapter 2 : This chapter will walk you through setting up your SharePoint Server 2019 development environment with a single server role to enable you to follow along practically in this book.

Chapter 3 : This chapter provides the fundamentals of configuring SharePoint Server 2019 using AutoSPInstaller, setting up an active directory, and adding users to the active directory. Finally, you will learn to configure SharePoint Server 2019.

Chapter 4 : This chapter focuses on the new user experience in SharePoint Server 2019 and compares it with the classic and SharePoint Server 2016 experiences.

Chapter 5 : This chapter highlights the features that SharePoint Server 2019 brings in and leaves behind. This will help you set the platform when you configure hybrid features.

Chapter 6 : This chapter covers how to configure the SharePoint Server 2019 home page in order to access information easily. The home page sets up a consistent hybrid experience for users across SharePoint Server 2019 (on-premises) and SharePoint Online (the cloud).

Chapter 7 : The hybrid experience begins in earnest with this chapter. Here, you’ll learn how to configure SharePoint Server hybrid and extend the workloads to SharePoint Online.

Chapter 8 : This chapter describes how to register a public domain with Office 365, instead of using the default provided domain.

Chapter 9 : This chapter discusses how to configure the underlying infrastructure to create a hybrid environment with SharePoint Server 2019 and Office 365.
