About the Author

Lena Sisco is a former Department of Defense (DoD) interrogator and has used her interrogation and deception-detecting techniques on members of al Qaeda and the Taliban during the Global War on Terror while she was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2002.

Lena has a master’s in archaeology and art from Brown University, and has excavated overseas as an archaeologist. She is a former Navy Intelligence officer who has been training the DoD since 2003 in detecting deception, behavioral congruency, elicitation, interrogation methods, tactical questioning, strategic interviewing, cross-cultural communications, enemy prisoner of war psychology, working with interpreters, and site exploitation.

She is president and cofounder of The Congruency Group and a senior instructor at the Body Language Institute in Washington, D.C. Her company’s motto is “Move your body to influence your mind; read the body to influence people.” Aside from training individuals and organizations on how to detect deception and get to the truth, through advanced interviewing techniques, Lena also teaches the science of body language as well as the skill of enhanced communications and the art of rapport-building. Her goal is to help people enhance their interpersonal skills and gain that leading edge in both their personal and professional lives.

A popular keynote speaker, Lena has also appeared on the Dr. Drew Headline News Network as a body-language expert, and was featured in Twist as a body-language expert. She has trained small-business owners, arson investigators, auditors, pediatric dentists, and member of the Special Forces.

Lena is originally from Rhode Island and looks forward to getting back there soon to help manage the horse farm her parents just bought. She is an animal lover who has volunteered her time as a zoo-keeper aide and animal caretaker at AZA accredited organizations. She believes she has lived two lives: the first, as an archaeologist (her childhood dream); and the second, as an interrogator. She hopes in her third life she will be training animals. Until then, she’ll keep busy with her other passions: writing and teaching.
