In this chapter we have covered the various means of starting and stopping WebLogic server. In the Windows environment, you have two choices: application start (as from the Start menu) and Service start. Starting WebLogic as a Windows service is preferable for most production environments. In a Unix environment, you will generally find it easier to start WebLogic from the command line.
It is important to note that the difference between an Administration server and a Managed server lies in the command-line options passed to it at start time.
For ease of administration, the Node Manager utility, which enables you to start a remote server from the administration console, should be installed in multiserver environments.
