1.4 Chapter Summary
This chapter has covered the basics steps necessary for preparing to develop
business contingency and continuity plans. We have introduced you to the
process of building the Business Continuity Plan. Part of the purpose of
this chapter was to introduce you to the various types of contingency plans,
which include the following:
Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
Business Recovery Plan (BRP)
Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)
Continuity of Support Plan/IT Contingency Plan
Crisis Communications Plan (CCP)
Cyber Incident Response Plan
Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)
Occupant Emergency Plan (OEP)
We discussed steps that you should take in preparing these various plans,
and how you should try to adhere to established BCP standards and guide-
lines. It is important to understand and adhere to industry-specific stan-
dards and regulations, and whether your business is in the finance, health,
or telecommunications sector, you should be aware of those sector-specific
requirements and account for them in any planning process.
BCP project organization was also covered in this chapter. We talked
about the importance of defining the scope of responsibilities for the team,
and how the project leader should ensure proper team composition to max-
imize the participation of key individuals across an organization. The
